In the year 2006, Yarra trams are celebrating 100 years of operations of Melbourne's electric trams. Trams have become a symbol of Melbourne and represent one of the best ways to get around the city.

Its origin can be traced to 1906, when Victorian Railways operated an electric tram service from St Kilda to Brighton from May 1906 until February 1959.

Yarra trains have been serving the city of Melbourne since 1999. Electronic passenger information, low floor trams, platform stops, refurbished vehicles and stops - plus access for the mobility- impaired - have vastly changed public perceptions about tram travel.

The trams have become a part of the city's heritage and culture. The world famous tram service is a part of the city's appeal.

With 28 major tram routes and 474 vehicles (representing six different tram classes) operating from eight depots at Brunswick, Camberwell, East Preston, Essendon, Glen Huntly, Kew, Malvern and Southbank, Yarra Trams help you to get around the city.
