Melbourne has a wide net work of buses which are being geared up to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Smart buses are one of the best modes of transport in the city.
Services as part of the Smart Bus program commenced on Monday the 5th of August 2002.
The Smart Bus program is a 'cross- town' bus service that will use arterial roads to offer a regular, efficient and reliable means of getting you to your destination. It will provide important connections between railway stations, shopping centers and other community resources. Smart Bus is an innovative high- tech concept that marks a new era in bus travel in Melbourne.
Smart Bus operates on Ventura's pre- existing route 703 services, between Blackburn Railway Station and Clayton Shopping Centre.
Extra buses now operate on route 703, to make catching Smart Bus easier. This includes a higher frequency service on both weekdays and weekends, and later operating night services (after midnight on weekdays). There are also fixed timetables and route maps at every Smart Bus stop.
