As the name suggests, this transport service caters to night owls. The Night Rider is a bus service on Friday and Saturday late nights and early mornings.

Night Rider buses leave from the corner of Swanston and Collins streets or at Crown Entertainment Complex or at any Night Rider stop along one of its nine routes. It has more than 300 shops en route. Bus stops are just a couple of kilometers apart. Special services also operate during the year to support major Melbourne events such as the Australian Grand Prix and New Year's Eve.

It boasts of several amenities like bus stops in well- lit areas, close to passenger shelter, public telephones, 24 hour facilities and police stations where possible; commonly scheduled departure times for all services, so you can transfer between buses; and new low floor wheelchair accessible buses.

Most Night Rider trips cost however some local fares may also apply (For example, Melton .20 and Mornington ). Night Rider tickets are valid for up to two hours and allow free transfer from to another Night Rider service for people traveling across town. Metcard tickets are not valid on Night Rider services.
