It makes a charming picture, transporting you to bygone eras, when ladies arrived at grand balls escorted in a splendid carriage. This mode of transportation from the days of yore has staged a come back.

You can unravel the city of Melbourne in a horse drawn carriage or take a joy ride. It is a charming experience. The value of an antique horse drawn carriage has risen sharply. The operation of horse- drawn vehicle rides from public place is now regulated by the City of Melbourne under the provisions of the Activities Local Law 1999 and horse- drawn vehicle operators must hold a permit.

The park and stop sites allow horse- drawn vehicle operators to feed and care for their horses, change manure bags and rest the horses while providing an opportunity to collect passengers.

Its history can be traced as far back as the 17th century when horses were the most popular mode of transport. A product of the Industrial Revolution, the horse drawn carriage was in the beginning used only by the aristocracy. Later coaching firms were established and it became a popular mode of travel.
