Port of Melbourne: It’s Description

This port, once called the Sandrige until 1884, can be considered as the busiest port in Australia for general cargo and containers because this port handles around 38% of the country’s trade of containers. The Port of Melbourne can be found at Melbourne in Victoria on the opening of the Yarra River. The port can also accommodate not only large vessels but also ferries and cruise ships that dock here too.

Sister Ports of the Melbourne Port

A port cannot function alone; therefore it needs other ports in order for it to have a smooth sail. Among the other ports that the Port of Melbourne has established ties – whether it be a sister, partner, trade co-operation and friendship ports - with are: Ports of Philadelphia and Oakland in USA; Ports of Shanghai and Tianjin in China and the Ports of Osaka and Yokohama in Japan.
