Dog's bar was one of the first bars of Melbourne. Nestling in St Kilda, it is one of the city's best bars. Blessed with an unusual name, this bar is a place to be both seen and heard. You enter the bar through wrought iron gates and then walk past the bowl of water which is intended to quench the thirst of neighborhood dogs. This bar was established by Donleavy Fitzpatrick, to cater to the artistic community. Its open terraces and palm trees give it an exotic touch.
It is tastefully decorated with blazing fireplaces, smoky, hazy walls and wrought iron chandeliers. A born survivor, the Dog's bar has gone from strength to strength while other bars of its time have faded into memory.
Wine is taken very seriously here, and you can find some particularly fine local pinot noir and sauvignon blanc at prices which are reasonable. They have over 150 wines - 24 by the glass, 18 bottled beers & Becks on tap, great value for money food and full of St Kilda locals - no wonder Dogs Bar is the favorite watering hole for the St Kilda artistic community and has become a St Kilda institution!
