Cocktail bar of the year award. This lavish opulent joint is one of the best places to be seen in Melbourne. This basement bar is steeped in old world charm. It is reminiscent of a French boudoir of the 19th century. Candles, candelabras and beautifully upholstered antique chairs and couches create the right mood. Beaded dividers offer you privacy to hold intimate conversations while paraphernalia adorns its walls.

Different DJs play all nights but Tuesdays, feature live jazz. There is no kitchen on site, but snacks such as chips and nuts are available at the bar. On Fridays though, free sushi is passed around to patrons.

It offers you a heady concoction of cocktails. You can try Chaise originals and fruity muddles that include Caiproskas and Mint Juleps. Originals have cool names like Lady Marmalade and Laur & Order and you can sip the Grand Passion: a mix of Grand Marnier, gin, ruby red grapefruit juice and sugar syrup, shaken and served in a highball, coated in bitters and garnished with an orange wedge.
