This museum showcases Jewish history and culture. It is a community museum which brings to us the story of Jewish life in Australia. It brings to life the customs, arts and religious practices of the Jews.

Other permanent exhibitions are The Jewish Year; Belief and Ritual; and The Timeline of Jewish History. Temporary exhibitions narrate the poignant personal stories of the Jews and display their exquisite art and culture. The museum shop has a wide selection of books, gifts and unique finely crafted Judaica by Australian artists. The museum also has a function room with full kosher catering as well as private guided tours of the exhibitions.

The Jewish Museum of Australia was established in 1982 and for thirteen years was located in the synagogue of the Melbourne Hebrew Congregation, South Yarra. In that time, the Jewish Museum presented over forty wide- ranging exhibitions, several of which traveled nationally.
