This unique museum vividly brings to life the story of people who migrated to Australia, the land of opportunity. Melbourne is a cosmopolitan city harboring multi lingual and cultural groups from diverse backgrounds who have come to the city from different parts of the world. Their stories of how they left their motherlands and traveled far to this new territory are relived in the museum .

The Immigration Museum opened in November 1998 as a new campus of Museum Victoria in the refurbished Old Customs House. The Museum is often used by researchers and schools to trace migratory patterns and family trees. The beautifully restored Customs House building also houses the Hellenic Museum, celebrating Melbourne's Greek community the largest outside Greece. The William Licensed Cafe and the gift shop will tempt you to prolong your visit.

It traces the history of immigrants from the pioneers of the 1800s to the present day. Visitors are often carried away on a tide of emotions that this museum evokes. It makes them understand Australia's rich ethnic and cultural diversity.
